American Idol 2008 – Vote time on Idol; Geek returns

Vote time on ‘Idol’; ‘Geek’ returns
TONIGHT’S MUST-SEE: “American Idol,” 8-10 p.m., WJBK-TV, Channel 2, Fox. Now the show is down to its final dozen contestants and things start to count more. Everyone sings and viewers vote. On Wednesday, one person will be eliminated.
The final 10 people go on the “Idol” tour — months of full employment. But the people eliminated this week and next are simply gone.

TONIGHT’S MIGHT-SEE: “Beauty and the Geek” season-opener, 8 p.m., WKBD-TV, Channel 50, CW.

This time, the structure is different. Instead of splitting into couples, the show is pitting the nine men against the nine women. In a first-episode challenge, the beauties have makeovers to make them unattractive. Then they go to a bar to see how many phone numbers they can get.

Other choices:
• “Joe Louis: America’s Hero … Betrayed,” 7:45-9 p.m., HBO. Here’s a profile of the great Detroit fighter and the troubles he encountered. Jimmy Carter and Maya Angelou are among the commentators.

• “The Biggest Loser,” 8-10 p.m., WDIV-TV, Local 4, NBC. We’re down to the final six now — or maybe not. All of the eliminated people return. The two who lost the most weight at home will be back in the competition.

• “One Tree Hill,” 9 p.m., WKBD-TV, Channel 50, CW. Lucas and Lindsey are on the eve of their wedding day, when they try to help another couple.

• “According to Jim,” 9 and 9:30 p.m., WXYZ-TV, Channel 7, ABC. In a new episode, Jim makes a playroom for himself instead of for his kids. Then, in a rerun, Jim discusses women with God, played by Lee Majors.

• “Dawn Anna,” 9-11 p.m., Lifetime. Debra Winger is terrific as a mother of four who faces a fierce medical crisis — and then another tragedy. The result has surprising humor, plus strong emotion.

• “In Treatment,” 9:30 p.m., HBO. Blair Underwood has been superb as Alex, the bomber pilot who must maintain control. Tonight, he relates two stories that show what might be his biggest fear — simply not mattering.
