Edison Chen naked photos scandal Continued: Hong Kong professors reacting?
Iflove News Agency: How Hong Kong teachers and students are reacting to Edison Chen sex scandal photo? Today I’ll tell you.
According to some newspaper, He may be Hong Kong’s answer to Paris Hilton, but rising star, Edison Chen’s penchant for taking photos may have just landed him in hot soup.
On 29 January, hundreds of photos, purportedly of Edison Chen engaging in sexual acts with female stars (including Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Vincy Yeung, Bobo Chan. Nor do I provide the dirty sex video of Edison Chen and his possible friends, such as Jolin Tsai, Shu Qi, Miriam Yeung, Elva Hsiao, Ella Koon, Stephy Tang, Jill Vidal and Maggie Q.) surfaced on the internet. More were found on hard disks and CDs when police raided the homes of people suspected of stealing or leaking the images.
These photos were allegedly stolen from Edison Chen’s customized pink Apple notebook computer when the rising star sent it to an electronics store for servicing.
At least some seven actresses have been implicated in the scandal, including Gillian Chung from the popular girl’s group TWINS, Cecilia Cheung and Maggie Q.
These female starlets include including Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Vincy Yeung, Bobo Chan. Nor do I provide the dirty sex video of Edison Chen and his possible friends, such as Jolin Tsai, Shu Qi, Miriam Yeung, Elva Hsiao, Ella Koon, Stephy Tang, Jill Vidal and Maggie Q.
Netizens have been quick to play the role of crime scene investigators when questions over the authenticity of the photos first arose.
They examined every thing from how the flower pot was positioned in the photos, to comparing the number of tattoos one of the actresses had in the photo.
The Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority has since received more than 1000 complaints on media coverage of the scandal.
But one positive thing that has emerged is the teaching profession’s response to this scandal.
Teachers were prepared to face students’ questions and offer them guidance. While many students indicated that they had not actually seen the photos, but they had engaged in discussions of the issues with friends, and some with their parents.
Chairman of the Hong Kong Aided Primary School Heads Association, Alex Cheung said that the nude photo scandal will serve as a tool to teach students about respect for others, as well as to know more about their bodies.
It has been quite re-assuring that the teaching profession has actively seized the opportunity to initiate lessons on moral values and critical thinking, from the level of primary five upwards.
It seems that teachers, students and parents are satisfied with such civics and moral lessons which are perceived to be necessary and rewarding.
As many Hong Kong students spend a considerable time on the internet, there is agreement among the teaching profession that sex education has to be strengthened. Sex issues can no longer be treated as taboos in schools.
The Hong Kong police, however, took a severe beating by netizens for their actions.
A crack team of at least nineteen police officers were mobilized to catch the culprits. In one case, a suspect was kept in jail for eight weeks during the Chinese New Year period on one count of publishing an obscene article pending further police investigation. The unusual denial of bail for an offence of this nature puts in question whether the right of freedom has been unjustifiably infringed.
The police’s over-zealous actions in cracking the case have raised serious concerns among civic groups – do the police adopt different standards for different people?
There is a view that the police are practicing double standards by deploying such extensive resources to deal with this case while other more important crimes receive far less attention, particularly when they do not involve rich and famous personalities.
More embarrassingly, the police commissioner was criticized for wrongly interpreting the legal implications of storing nude photos when he said that possessing such photos would render one liable to prosecution.
It is also worthy to note that despite the repeated arrests made, more new nude photos continued to infiltrate the online forums daily. The mastermind who has been spreading these photos, a netizen who goes by the name of “Kira”, continues to remain at large.
The irony of it is for an entertainment industry infamous for its paparazzi culture and the amount of soft pornography that appears in local publications, it is perhaps unbelievable that a series of celebrity nude photos would cause such a stir in the former British territory.
Has Hong Kong’s media liberalization eroded the moral values of society? Or are moral values eroding media liberalization in the territory?
OK, now you’ve read the review: Hong Kong teachers and students are reacting to Edison Chen sex scandal photo. What do you think about? How do you like it?
