Goldie Hawn says young celebrities are media prisoners, not including Britney Spears

Goldie Hawn says young celebrities are media prisoners, not including Britney Spears. Oscar-winning actress Goldie Hawn has blamed insatiable paparazzi for the problems affecting some of the world’s most famous women.

In an interview to be broadcast on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Hawn said the media were making young stars “prisoners”.

Celebrities such as Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan have all admitted themselves into rehab during the past year – a period that has coincided with intense photographer interest.

Although she did not name names, Hawn told Jonathan Ross: “These young girls in the media now, they’re hounded, hunted, they’re prisoners and they’re frightened. This world is all tabloid.”

The 62-year-old actress claimed the entertainment industry’s obsession with looks was “scary [and] awful”.

“Vanity is a big problem,” she continued. “It’s a pressure that children have. A healthy amount of vanity is good, but this sense of wanting more than you have is bad.”

Hawn, who won a best supporting actress Academy award for Cactus Flower in 1969, also revealed her secrets for a successful relationship after 25 years with fellow actor Kurt Russell.

“Flirting is healthy, tension is good. I want a girl to want [Kurt]. I like it. It’s up to Kurt how he handles it – we argue, but it shows I still care,” she revealed.

“If sex goes out of your relationship you either have to be friends or break up. Sex is really important.”
