Talent show contest: Unlike American Idol, no winner will be crowned
Group to sponsor talent show contest: Unlike American Idol, no winner will be crowned at the end.
But like the top-ranked TV show, “Stage Struck” is designed to show off young people’s talents.
Sponsored by Alamance Citizens for Education, the event will be held April 12 in the auditorium of Williams High School in Burlington.
“This is a countywide talent showcase,” said Allison Gant, who is executive director of Alamance Citizens for Education.
It’s not a competition, she said. All of the performances will involve groups of students who sing, dance, play instruments or do musical theater.
The show will feature 20 performances by student groups from schools in the Alamance-Burlington School System.
Stage Struck will feature groups from elementary, middle and high schools, which Gant said helps show how students progress in the arts as they mature.
The event will raise money for Alamance Citizens for Education, which will give some of the money raised to schools to support performing arts programs.
Bob Lewis, a businessman known for his involvement in Scouting, will be master of ceremonies.
Jeanne Robertson, a professional speaker, humorist, author and former Miss North Carolina who lives in Burlington, is the event’s honorary chairwoman.
Robertson said other commitments prevented her from having an active role in the event, but she will be there and wanted to lend her name to Stage Struck.
“I think it’s great that it’s not a competition,” she said. “It’s a display of talent of a lot of young people in the county … Young people want to get up there (on stage), and this gives them an opportunity to do it.”
Gant said Alamance Citizens Education is planning for Stage Struck to be an annual event.
